THE HUMAN & THE HOLY: AN INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY
Third Sunday of the Month, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 18, Jan. 15, Feb. 19,
Mar. 19, Skip April, and May 21
Presented by: Dan Miller, M.Div., Th.M.
The Human and The Holy (H&H) is a gathering of people who are committed
to exploring and cultivating the mystical and prophetic dimensions of
faith and pursuing together the deeper meanings of Jesus' invitation to
abundant life. Comprised of seven monthly topics, it is not a series of
talks that one can pick and choose from, but rather a process of spiritual
formation within a gradually forming community. Participants agree to
come one Sunday afternoon a month, beginning in October and ending in
May (with the exception of April). Typically each gathering includes four
movements: content*, time for individual reflection, group interaction,
and ritual.
H&H has
two primary goals: first, to encourage adult seekers and practitioners
of faith to move beyond the basics of religion and to go deeper in their
understanding and lived experience of Christian spirituality; second,
to create a community of learning and mutual care united by the common
desire to listen and respond more fully to the presence of God in their
lives and the world today.
*This year
(2005-2006) special emphasis will be given to the use of spiritually themed
films that have gone virtually unappreciated and unseen as a way of jump-starting
our theological reflection and conversation together.

JUNGIAN
ARCHETYPES AND SPIRITUALITY
Saturday, Oct. 22
Presented by: Thom Cavelli, Ph.D.
The relationship between archetypes and spirit is a key that unlocks the
door to understanding Jung's psychology and how to live a profoundly meaningful
life. Participants will explore some of the major archetypes, their expression,
complexes and their spiritual influence on human affairs. Emphasis will
be given to the archetypes of the Great Mother, Trickster, Persona and
Shadow as different aspects of psyche that unconsciously shape our concept
of spirit. With images, myths and storytelling this seminar should prove
to be as entertaining as it promises to be informative and useful to our

THIS WILL
BE REMEMBERED OF HER (MATTHEW/JOHN) WEEKEND RETREAT
Friday, Nov. 18, 7:00 p.m. - Sunday, Nov. 20, 12:00 p.m.
Presented by: Megan McKenna
These words of Jesus are defense of and proclamation of what a woman has
done for him, in compassion, mercy and love, announcing in her pouring
of ointment over his head that he is the long-awaited one of the promises:
he is priest, prophet and king. She is the only one in Matthew's gospel
who recognizes him for who he truly is and ritually anoints him publicly.
We will look at the stories of Matthew's gospel and the women who are
remembered as well as their sisters who recognize and proclaim today what
is necessary and just in the world. There will be stories and the Word
in scriptures, and flesh, to listen to and take heart from and imitate
in our own ways. It is time to cry out, and speak silently, wordlessly,
and to pray together. $225, commuters $150

Saturday, Dec. 10
Presented by: Dan Miller, M.Div., Th.M.
The only things for certain in life, the saying goes, are death and taxes,
which is another way of saying loss. Life guarantees the experience of
loss and loss triggers grief. This presentation will provide a biblical-spiritual
paradigm that takes seriously the disruptive nature of loss, offers a
pattern for structuring the experience, considers the mourning process,
and explores the transformational potential inherent in loss events. The
day will include individual time to prayerfully reflect on the personal
myths around which we have constructed our lives, our own history of loss,
presentation, and small and whole group discussion. This day will be helpful
for both those trying to make sense of loss and those working with the
bereaved.
